| A Brief Introduction to Chinese Visa
Chinese visa is a permit issued by the Chinese visa authorities to those foreigners who want to enter into, exit from or transit through the Chinese territory. According to the applicants’ identity, visiting purpose and passport type, the Chinese visa falls into four categories, namely, diplomatic, courtesy, service and ordinary visas. The ordinary visa consists of nine sub-categories, which are respectively marked with Chinese phonetic letters F, L, Z, X, C, J-1, J-2, G, and D. Visit / Business Visa (F): Issued to those foreigners who are invited to China for visit, research, lecture, business, scientific-technological and cultural exchanges or short-term advanced studies or intern practice for a period of less than six months. Tourism Visa (L): Issued to those who enter China temporarily for touring, family visiting or other personal affairs (multiple-entry is not granted for this category). Working Visa (Z): Issued to foreigners who are to take up a post or employment in China, and their accompanying family members. Study / Student Visa (X): Issued to those who come to China for study or intern practice for a period of six months or above. Crewmember Visa (C): Issued to crewmembers on international aviation, navigation and land transportation missions and their accompanying family members. Journalist Visa (J-1): This visa is for journalists who are posted to China for at least one year. Journalist Visa (J-2): Issued to foreign correspondents on temporary interview mission in China. Transit Visa (G): Issued to those who transit through China. Residence Visa (D): Issued to people who are going to live in China permanently. The Chinese visa authorities overseas include Chinese embassies, consulates, visa offices, and the consular department of the office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. If a foreigner intends to enter into, exit from or transit through the Chinese territory, he shall apply to the above-mentioned Chinese visa authorities for a Chinese visa. You need to get Visa Notice from China which is issued by the authorized departments to Chinese government such as municipal government, foreign affairs office, foreign trade office ect. If you have trade partner in China they can sponsor you and get Visa Notice for you, this is essential for getting business visa for the Nigerian nationalities.
I am journalist holding French passport, I would like to travel to Tibet not as a journalist but as a tourist with my wife and two kids, I heard that it is not easy to get Chinese visa for Tibet area , is that true, should I mention I am a journalist when I am appliying for China visa?
I have seen that in many official websites of China embassy the visa information are posted years ago. My question is are stil valid and reilable or they just forgot to update the websites?
Consular regulations will not change frequently, if there is a change those websites will be updated, therefore you can rely on offcial websites of China Embassy websites, but try to read as more as possible rules may vary according to certain circumstances.

Hello – I am an assistant in US. My client wishes to travel to China on business on July 11, 2011. Her current visa expires on July 23, 2011. She will depart China before July 23. I know the passport needs to be valid for 3 months past the date of visa expiration and that is good. I do not know if the same applies for the visa expiration. Does she need to apply for a new visa before traveling or is it ok to travel on the existing visa even though it expires soon?

Apart from your passport, picture and form, You need to provide confirmation of travel booking in China, visa support letter and bank statement.

Be sure it is the invitation letter issued by concerned government departments not a simple invitation typed on the company letter head. If you got the government invitation letter you have to provide letter from your company, application form , original passport and photos. sometimes Chinese Embassy may also asks you to show latest bank statement.

Formally your wife can not join with you for the invitation letter you have got, you can try to get another invitation letter for her from the same source or try to convince visa officer in Philippines that you are travelling together, sending her the copy of invitation letter you got, and certificate of marriage ect…. It is much harder to get China visa Filipinos for the same period you will get. Or you can get extension for her when you got in to China. Currently on all major cities there are brokers who will provide assistance for visa and other formalities.

We were denied entry to Hongkong evenif I had an invitation letter from a sizeable organization that invited me. Ugandans can stay in Hongkong for 30 days without first getting a visa but according to the activities that am supposed to attend, I need about 6 weeks in Hongkong. It is necessary to get a visa invitation, you should better contact publishing companies in Guangzhou and let them send you an invitation letter, please note that this invitation letter should be issued by authorized departments from China government, company invitation letter will not work.

Yes, there are several Chinese visas which will let you enter more than one time such as 6 month double entry visa, 6 month multiple visa and one year multiple entry visa.
Separate visa is needed for Hong kong, but citizens of quite many countries can get visa on arrival or visit Hong Kong without visa. What is your nationality.

My university has given us an invitation letter that will require her to come originally on an “L” visa and get it transferred to spouse visa. The visa will be a 60 day visa with 2 entries. One of our friends still has the green Philippine visa, but it is still valid up to 2014 because she just had it renewed in 2009. We are processing our visa application requirements. We are husband and wife travelling to Europe via Beijing. On our way to Europe on 18 September 2011 we will stop over Beijing from 11:10 Am to 6:40 PM. But on our way back to Manila via Beijing, our stop over in Beijing will be on 29 September 2011 from 1:01 PM (our arrival at Beijing airport) to 30 September 2011, 8:55 PM (our departure for Manila). We have reserves a hotel in Beijing for one night and will visit the Forbidden City during this stay.
We applied for our tourist visa following the advise of the embassy personnel at the visa application section.But although we indicated two (2) entries in our application, we were issued only a one (1) entry visa with L category.
Will we not have problem with the Chinese immigration when we arrive in Beijing o our way back to the Philippines? Please advise us. Thank you.

you are staying less then 24 hours, therefore one entry will enough for your stay in your way back to the Philippines. But, On your first entry to China should not exit from airport otherwise you need two entries.

Hi, I have been offered a position in Shanghai with a large multi-national corporation who is based in the US. This company only entered China at the beginning of this year and are having a problem getting me a work permit for Shanghai, the issue they have got is that I have only just graduated from University in the UK (and I am a UK national) and the Z-Visa says that I would need 2 years work experience after graduation in order to qualify for a work permit. However, I do have more than 2years work experience while I was at University and before (I am 24). Is there anything you can suggest that would allow for me to get a Z-Visa issued? Or is there an alternative visa that I should be applying for instead? I would really appreciate your help on this matter, and happy mid-autumn festival!

I am Canadian and have organized, through EF Educational tours, a group tour. We will visit Beijing (2 days), Badaling (1 day), Xi’an (2 days), Shanghai (2 days), and Hong Kong (3 days). I am in need of some assistance in determining what type of Visa to apply for since the tour company said we needed to take care of this ourselves.
Should we apply as a group or individually? What documentation is needed? When should we apply?

I’m a South African citizen and I’ve applied for a teaching job in Hubei and had been advised to apply for my z-visa after receipt of my invitation and work permit which will be expressed couriered. Would I be able to apply for the z-visa from South Africa? Some say I need to apply for a business visa and then apply for the work visa once I get to china, but my teaching employer says I should apply for the work visa whilst still in South Africa. My daughter was born in Canada. She is travelling from Canada (Air Canada) to Hong Kong (Air Canada) via Beijing. The Air Canada plane will land on Terminal 3 in Beijing. Then the Air China plane will take off 2 hours later right at terminal 3 and goes to Hong Kong. In other words, the transit time in Beijing is 2 hours and she is not going to leave Terminal 3.
Questions:
1. Does she have to take her luggage at the Beijing airport and go through Custom/Immigration in Beijing before boarding the plane in Beijing to Hong Kong?
2. Does she need a Chinese visa?
3. The information if she needs a visa for her Beijing transit is quite confusing. The travel agent insists that she needs a visa but the web site (China Travel) says if she is not to stay over 24 hours, she does not need one. So, if she really does not need one, how can we prove to the Immigration officer that she does not need one?

I am a Filipino and I have been visiting China for several years now staying with my wife in Changzhou(Chinese National). Everytime I come home to China I always get an L-Visa and just when my Visa expires I have to come to an Immigration officer for a new Visa. Recently, my wife found an article that would allow me to stay longer than usual without worrying about the Visa expiration.
My question is, does the Immigration office grant visitors like on my case a longer stay, if so how do I go about it.
